The Samsung ATIV S is the newest member of the Windows Phone devices clan and happens to be the first from the company to employ the WP8 OS. It claims to pack in a punch in its stylish aluminum body that is just 8.7mm thick, reveals a post on the official Windows Steam blog.

A 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display reinforced with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 sits on the front panel. A 1.5GHz dual core processor and 1GB RAM sit under the hood and take care of internal operations of the Samsung ATIV S. It will be made available in variants with 16GB and 32GB onboard memory and embed a microSD card slot for additional storage.

“Despite having a 4.8” display, which makes the ATIV S one of the bigger phones on the market, it doesn’t feel that big. I attribute that to three things. The first is that the ATIV S is impossibly thin – obvious, yes – but still important,” stated Ben Rudolph in a post on the official Windows Steam blog.

“The second is more subtle; Samsung made the bezel of the ATIV S an oblong hemisphere. That means that the bezel actually bulges out slightly, then tapers more acutely to the back. This makes the ATIV extremely comfortable to hold and keeps your fingers off the screen when it’s in your hand. The third, and in my opinion most important, is weight and balance,” continued Rudolph.

The device is also armed with an 8MP rear camera with built-in flash as well as a 1.9MP front-mounted webcam to facilitate video calling over the web. It draws power from a 2,300mAh battery. The curvy phone sports a physical Windows button to start the screen and aluminum speaker bars on both panels.

The Samsung ATIV S price and release date have not been given a mention.
