Qualcomm Snapdragon S4

The all new Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8225Q and MSM8625Q processors have been unveiled by the chip maker. These SoCs have been specifically designed for smartphones seeking to offer quick operations and an improved user experience.

Following in the footsteps of the company’s dual core processors, these newly disclosed chips are integrated with quad core CPUs. In terms of specifications, the setup lends support to LPDDR2 memory and expands the bus bandwidth for incorporating features such as a 720p display and video encode and decode in the said resolution.

Both the entrants proffer connectivity options such as Bluetooth 4.0, FM and Wi-Fi owing to the included AR6005 and WCN2243 chips. Senior vice president and co-president of mobile and computing products at Qualcomm, Cristiano Amon, says that the two variants of the chip mean manufacturers can expect a differentiated as well as competitive platform.

The fresh introductions are part of the company’s Snapdragon S4 Play tiers. Additionally, a single platform dubbed Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8930 has also been revealed which rubs along nicely with all Chinese networks such as TD-CDMA, UMTS and CDMA.

It will also extend support to LTE-TDD and TD-SCDMA for use in mid-tier handsets. This processor is expected to show up in devices by Q1 2013. Both the Play and Plus chips are tailored for high-volume smartphones and they allow manufacturers to modify their current S1-based designs for S4 quad core or dual core setups.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8225Q, MSM8625Q and MSM8930 processors have been developed to enable smartphone companies to deliver advanced devices supporting 3G and LTE networks.
