AT&T shows off new Windows Phone handsets, Mango update arriving too

Samsung Focus AT&TGauging the excitement revolving around the latest Mango update by Windows Phone, AT&T seems ready to take it a notch up for itself by expanding its portfolio for the mobile platform. The network carrier has announced a near future inauguration of three new smartphones powered by the operating system. Also, a Mango update for four of its existing devices running on the current version of this mobile platform is also expected to be released this fall.

The new Windows Phone handsets in the range include two from Samsung, the Focus S and the Focus Flash, while one from HTC namely the Titan, all of them being 4G enabled devices. The devices first in line to receive the Mango update include the HTC HD7S, LG Quantum, Samsung Focus, and the HTC Surround.

The new handsets being released through AT&T with the latest Windows Phone inside are expected to be unveiled this fall. The Samsung Focus S, being seen as a successor to the Focus, features a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display. Sporting an 8MP main camera and a 1.3-inch front facing one, the device is powered by a 1.4GHz processor. The Samsung Focus Flash also runs on a similar processor, but does some cost cutting by employing a 5MP camera and a 3.7-inch Super AMOLED screen.

“Our customers love Windows Phones which is why we’ve sold more of them than anyone else. We’re taking our leadership to a whole new level by getting the Mango update to all existing customers and rolling out awesome new Windows Phones,” explained Jeff Bradley, senior vice president, Devices, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets.

Next in this list, the HTC Titan boasts of the largest screen at 4.7-inch in AT&T’s smartphone line-up till date. The device, designed to fit comfortably in users’ hands, gives access to Xbox Live games and AT&T U-Verse Mobile. Its key components comprise of a 1.5GHz processor and an 8MP camera with flash.

Other than this, AT&T is serving the plated-up Mango directly to existing users of devices like HTC HD7S, LG Quantum, Samsung Focus, and the HTC Surround. The update, expected this fall, is said to make AT&T the first network carrier in the U.S. to offer a bite of Mango.
