$20 People’s Phone to be launched in India by Spice

Spice logoThe $2bn Bombay-listed telecom giant, Spice has announced its plan to debut the $20 phone at Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress. The Indian launch will also give way to an all-new Braille version.

Spice will also unveil the world’s first mobile phone that would have the ability to play films on a disc. Moreover, the telecom company had also released its new pilot scheme in the country, allowing users to make free calls, provided they are ready to listen to a short advertising jingle.

It is said that it was an initiative taken by the company to break the stranglehold of other companies on the market.

In context to the low-cost handset, BK Modi, chairman of Spice mentioned that this is the world’s first “People’s phone” that will be available for less than $20. This phone targets at a wide range of people who are not in a financial state to afford costly mobile phones.

Spice seems to be working on the motto of “By the people, for the people, of the people.”
