Symantec Norton Online Backup for HP desktops, notebooks

HP And Symantec Logos Symantec has affirmed that it has entered into a partnership with Hewlett Packard (HP) to provide online backup to HP consumers. Symantec has agreed to provide Norton Online Backup service to HP desktop and notebook users worldwide.

All HP desktops and notebooks will now be supplied with a 30-day trial version of the Norton Online Backup. This service will provide users with 5GB of secured storage space. Symantec’s Norton Online Backup presently caters to around eight million customers, taking more than three million backups per day.

“We’re very pleased that HP continues to choose Norton, this time to bring our new web-based backup service to HP customers worldwide,” said Symantec President (Consumer Business Unit) Janice Chaffin.

The service allows users to remotely manage and restore lost files from virtually any PC that can connect to the Internet. Moreover, these backups are done without any human intervention at regular intervals. These intervals can be set by the user according to their needs.

The HP consumer PCs are currently being shipped with a 60-day trial version of this service. The company has not yet specified whether the prices of the PCs will change owing to the incorporation of this service.
