Sony Pocket, Touch and Daily Edition e-readers out at slashed prices

After Woot announced the release of the Kindle e-reader at $149.99 (approx. Rs. 7,000), its now Sony’s turn to spill some good news. Engadget reports that Sony has cut down the prices of its Pocket, Touch and Daily Edition e-readers.

Fitted with Vizplex screens displaying resolutions of 800 x 600p, the Pocket and Touch Edition e-readers offer internal memory of about 512MB apiece. They function with Windows XP and Vista OS as well as Mac OS X version 10.6, 10.4.11, 10.5.6 or later versions. Each device affords internet connectivity and comes powered by a DC 3.7V Li-ion battery.

The Pocket Edition has a 5” screen and weighs about 7.76oz. Apart from being fitted with a 6” screen, the Touch Edition weighs about 10.1oz. The 7.1” screen of the Daily edition displays a resolution of about 600 x 1024p. This device integrates about 1.6GB of storage capacity which is expandable by up to 32GB through the dual memory card expansion slots. The 3G enabled Daily Edition shares similar features as the Pocket and Touch Edition e-readers.

The Pocket Edition which was previously priced at $169 (approx. Rs. 7,900) now costs $149 (approx. Rs. 6,970). The price of the Touch Edition has been reduced to $169 (approx. Rs. 7,900) from $199 (approx. Rs. 9,310). The Daily Edition which can be picked up for $299 (approx. Rs. 13,990) was previously tagged at $349 (approx. Rs. 16,330).
