With all eyes peeled on the Tokyo Game Show, a lighter and slimmer version of the Sony PS3 has just been launched. There are several improvements worth the attention and the less bulky build is just one of them.

According to the company, this new-fangled variant is roughly 25% lighter and 20% smaller than the present PS3. Moreover, its compact exterior is said to go well with just about any entertainment system. It will be made available in 2 storage choices of 250GB and 500GB as well as a 12GB flash variant, the last mentioned of which will first land in Europe.

More HDD choices have been incorporated keeping in mind titles with big DLC packs, storage needs as well as full game downloads. The entire internal architecture of the Sony PS3 has been redesigned and it has reduced the weight as well as volume of the gadget by more than half when pitted against the original PS3 model.

For potential users in Europe, the device is expected to be made available at €299.99 (approx. Rs. 21,165) with FIFA 13, while the 12GB flash version will cost €229.99 (approx. Rs. 16,225). The former’s release date is pegged for September 28 and the latter will be seen on October 12. In terms of Japan, the 500GB gadget will retail for 29,800 Yen (approx. 20,405) and the 250GB build will set buyers back by 24,900 Yen (approx. Rs. 17,050). It will hit availability status on October 4.

The slimmer Sony PS3 price in the US has been disclosed too. For North America, the 250GB variant is tagged at $269.99 (approx. Rs. 14,585) as a limited edition bundle with titles such as Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception: Game of the Year Edition and a voucher for Dust 514 bonus digital content. It is expected to hit store shelves on September 25. The new 500GB edition will also be released as a limited edition bundle on October 30 for $299 (approx. Rs. 16,155), along with the unveiling of Assassin’s Creed III.
