PlayStation 3 console sails through the 50 million unit sales mark

The Sony PlayStation 3 gaming console has been gracing living rooms, bedrooms and gaming lounges with its presence ever since its release back in November 2006. Loads of companies have fashioned a plethora of games that cover various genres such as action, adventure, RPG, puzzle and others. Now Sony Computer Entertainment has revealed that the cumulative sales of its PS3 system have hit the 50 million units milestone all across the globe.

The company further announced that the PlayStation Move motion controller for PS3 also made news headlines as it slid passed the 8 million units worldwide mark. The PS3 is infused with the powerful Cell Broadband Engine, RSX processors, HDMI and Blu-ray disc player. The console continues to evolve by introducing new and enhanced features and services through software updates. The PlayStation Network service claims to have garnered over 75 million registered accounts and is present in 59 countries across the globe.

In addition to indulging in fun and engaging titles, the PS3 also enables players to take advantage of Blu-ray 3D features and stereoscopic 3D gaming which is acquirable through a free system software update. Thanks to this ability, system owners can dive into realistic stereoscopic 3D from their PS3 by connecting it to a 3D-enabled TV via a HDMI cable. There are also 89 stereoscopic 3D software titles to enjoy.

The PlayStation Move is used in collaboration with PlayStation Eye camera for a more realistic gaming experience. As the company suggests, there are 155 PlayStation Move supported and dedicated software titles which include the likes of Killzone 3, Sports Champions and SingStar Dance. Eager players can also look forward to more engaging Move games that are slated to release this year such as SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs among others.
