Amazon Kindle now available in more than 100 countries

Amazon Kindle Reader The Kindle is said to be one of Amazon’s best selling device. However, this reader was available only in the US. But now, Amazon has decided to pay heed to the request of consumers around the globe and offer the Kindle in more than 100 countries.

The 6-inch e-book reader is capable of downloading and displaying books, magazines, newspapers and personal documents. The reader also allows consumers to purchase books from the Kindle Store that offers about 2,00,000 books.

“We have millions of customers in countries all over the world who read English-language books,” said Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com Founder and CEO. “Kindle enables these customers to think of a book and download it wirelessly in less than 60 seconds.”

“Penguin is a leading supplier of digital books to Kindle in the U.S. and we are delighted to be extending that successful partnership to the rest of the world,” said John Makinson, CEO of Penguin. “The publishing industry is experiencing explosive growth in digital book sales in the U.S. and we hope to stimulate digital buying elsewhere by making our content widely available on new devices.”

The Kindle is approximately pencil-thin in size and weighs less than a paperback book. The reader also allows users to subscribe to various newspapers that are available at the Kindle Store. The list of available newspapers include La Stampa (Italy), El País (Spain), El Universal (Mexico), O Globo (Brazil), The Daily Telegraph (UK), The New York Times, The International Herald Tribune, Le Monde and many more.

Readers can now pre-order the Kindle from Amazon for a price of $279 (approx. Rs. 13,060). The company will start shipping the reader from October 19.
