Packed in a lightweight contour, the Nikon 1 J2 sports an Expeed 3 image processor and a 3-inch LCD monitor. As mentioned above, the device comes with Motion Snapshot. This feature captures a still and roughly a second of video footage before and after the shutter-release button is hit. Users will be able to view the entire clip followed by the image in slow motion along with a pre-selected background music.

There is also the Smart Photo Selector mode that records images in the memory buffer when the button is pushed halfway down to provide 20 stills in a row on a complete press. The device then automatically removes the ones that are blurred or without the primary subject to bring the count down to 5 images, after which it selects and displays the best picture. Other modes include the auto photo mode, the movie mode and the creative mode that consist of night landscape, backlighting and easy panorama, amongst others.
