The new JVC GY-HM150 ProHD Camcorder makes its United States debut at the Createasphere in New York City. The camcorder was first announced earlier this month, designed to enhance the features offered by the earlier GY-HM100.

This camcorder from JVC was first introduced at the start of this month at the IBC 2011. Designed especially for photojournalists around the world, the camcorder allows full HD 1080p, 1080i, and 720p recording at a variety of frame and bit rates. The device also features a new encoder and digital signal processor which not only deliver improved HD recording and add support for standard definition (SD).

“The new GY-HM150 offers a familiar, comfortable form factor with a number of productive new features that many of our customers requested,” explains Craig Yanagi, manager of marketing and brand strategy. “It only weighs about three pounds including the battery, but it delivers performance that rivals larger and far more expensive cameras. Plus, the option to record in SD is very important to a number of broadcasters and other video professionals who have not yet made the transition to HD-only production in the field.”

The company promises a number of improvements in the new camcorder. The list includes an enhanced LCD monitor and a color viewfinder along with a 3.5mm input for use with optional wired remote controls for focus, zoom, iris, and recording functions. The manual controls have also received an upgrade, like the iris dial next to the built-in Fujinon 10:1 HD zoom lens and six user-assignable buttons.

Expected to release in October 2011, the JVC GY-HM150 ProHD camcorder will be available in the United States for a price of $3,495 (approx Rs. 1, 72, 897).
