Pentax intros Optio WS80 compact, waterproof camera

Pentax Optio WS80 Camera

Pentax has come up with yet another waterproof camera to add to its innovative devices. Building on the success of the Pentax Optio W80, the company has now introduced the Pentax Optio WS80. Well, an extra alphabet in the name of a former product generally indicates that the product has been updated with a few new features. But the Optio WS80 is an exception to this rule as it eliminates certain features instead of adding up.

The Pentax Optio WS80 claims to be the perfect travel mate. Featuring a 10 megapixel CCD and a 5X internal zoom, this camera measures less than an inch in thickness. The 2.7-inch LCD screen delivers a resolution of 2,30,000 pixels. This waterproof camera is capable of tolerating up to 5 feet depts. The WS80 captures high resolution, widescreen videos at a speed of 30 frames per second without compromising on the quality. The camera captures images and videos with a resolution of 720p even under water.

The ISO Sensitivity of up to 6400 boosts the shutter speeds to provide blur-free images even with low ambient light. The features of the Pentax Optio WS80 include Fast Face Detection, Smile Capture, Blink Detection and Shake Reduction technology. The Pentax Auto Picture mode automatically selects the best mode from the eight presets depending on the surroundings.

The Pentax Optio WS80 will be made available from next month in black and orange or white and purple color combinations. The waterproof camera will be price at $249.95 (approx. Rs. 11,893). Well, we feel that this dainty device is priced at a slightly higher side. Considering the features and the pricing, the original W80 would be a better option at just $50 more.
