Sanyo Xacti DMX-CA8

Sanyo’s Xacti line-up of digital camera gets enhanced with the newest waterproof digital still and movie camera, named DMX-CA8. It offers higher resolution photos, better quality video and an improved face detection function.

The 8-megapixel camera has the ability to deliver a 4,000 x 3,000 pixels resolution of still image. It makes use of CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor) sensors, which claims to work faster as compared to CCD (charge couple device) image sensor. Thus, users will notice a frame rate of 60fps while video capturing. It supports MPEG4 AVC/H.264 compression for the video files.

It also includes a 2.5 inch TFT color LCD display, approx. 150,000 pixels (7-level brightness), 5x optical zoom lens, digital image stabilizer and an in-built memory of 44MB with up to 32GB SDHC Card memory card slot.

By using the TV-HR mode, the highest of the five video shooting modes, the CA8 delivers a VGA image resolution of 640×480 pixels and a bit rate of 6Mbps. The advanced face detection function can recognize four people in a shot and tries maintaining the focus on them.

According to Sanyo, the latest Xacti DMC-CA8 can perform its task deep inside the water at a depth of about 1.5 metres.

Measuring 70x111x40 mm (WxHxD) and weighing 239g, the camera can offer 205 still image shots or about 75 minutes of continuous video shooting on one go.

Priced at ¥50,000 (approx. Rs. 9,800), the Sanyo Xacti DMX-CA8 camera is expected to hit shelves in Japan by mid-May 2008. It comes in white, blue and black color options.

Please note that the ‘Face Chaser’ function for movies tracks up to 6 faces, not four. Also, there is a ‘Face Chaser’ function available for still images that will track up to 12 faces.
