Wal-Mart releases Everex Linux gPC that works with Google, Not Microsoft

Everex Linux gPC Everex of Taiwan has developed the new version of Linux-based computer that interestingly works on ‘gOS’ theme, a version of Linux specially made to run Google applications like GMail and Google Documents.

‘gOS’ means Google Operating System and is available on an inexpensive hardware, named Everex gPC TC2502. It comes with a 1.5-gigahertz Via C7-D processor that consumes 2-20W of power, 512 megabytes of memory, an 80-gigabyte hard drive and DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive.

Moreover, the gPC, touted as ‘Green PC’ also runs OpenOffice, an open-source office suite that can handle Microsoft Word documents and some multimedia applications. It also comes with an intuitive desktop interface with a set of icons, such as Map icon that provides Google Maps.

The Linux-powered gPC is currently available for $200 through 600 Wal-Mart stores in US. This also comes bundled with a keyboard and mouse, whereas for monitor, buyers need to pay extra.

Luckily, if noticed, Microsoft tax is not added.
