Duracell Powermat 24 Hour Power System juices up devices wirelessly

Duracell Powermat Wireless Charger

Tossing away the troubles of those tangle-happy wires, the Duracell Powermat 24 Hour Power System has now entered the scene. The charging device claims to be portable enough to juice up smartphones while on the run.

The Powermat is a wireless power transmitter that ‘bleeps’ on being plugged into a socket to signal that it is ready to charge compatible phones seated on it. The device in question must be inserted into the provided cover in order to enable it to get charged. Rendering the sheathed gadget some amount of protection, the case can be picked up in pink, black and white at retail outlets, while it will be available in a range of color schemes online.

“Today’s smartphones are our right hand: evermore powerful, but at the same time ever quicker to run out of power, barely lasting through the afternoon. With The Duracell Powermat 24 Hour Power System, users can now fully utilize their phone throughout the day without having to worry about the battery life,” explained Ron Rabinowitz, Duracell Powermat CEO. “And, with our upcoming Wireless Power Nation, this will get even easier. People will be able to charge wirelessly on embedded ‘wireless power hot spots’ in public venues where they travel and interact throughout their day. All they will need to do is put their phone on the table, same thing they normally do. The only difference is that now, their smartphones will get charged from the table.”

The Powermat is coupled with a backup battery that functions as a portable charger. It enables users to fill up the smartphone while on the move by simply connecting it to the gadget via the embedded micro-USB port or Apple connectors. The battery is expected to deliver one complete charge capacity. It can be fed in the same manner as a handset, by dropping it onto the Powermat.

The Duracell Powermat 24 Hour Power System price is $99.99 (approx. Rs. 5,600). It is out for the iPhone 4 and 4S at major New York retail shops and online. Wider availability for other smartphones is expected to follow this fall.
