Recently, we had reported about Micro Technologies’ Lost Notebook Tracking System. Here’s another software that would track stolen mobile phones.
Micro Technologies has collaborated with telecom service provider MTNL, to incorporate the Lost Mobile Tracking System (LMTS) onto their handsets. The software that works on the GSM technology, is available for download and can be installed for free.
If the software-equipped phone is stolen and the thief uses another SIM card, it instantly sends an email and SMS alerting the customer, on their alternative number. In addition to the stolen phone bit, the software also provides details on the present location of the phone. It also gives the phone number of the new users to the consumer.
“The software can be downloaded for free from MTNL through GPRS and can be installed on almost 250 models of mobile phones,” commented a spokesperson for Micro Technologies, the Mumbai-based firm which developed the software.
In order to get all the above mentioned information, the software has to carry out few steps such as store the IMEI number of the phone, which is a unique number that identifies each mobile phone; and also store the SIM (subscriber identity module) card number being used by the customer. Furthermore, consumers also need to provide an alternate phone number and email address while registering for the software, where it gets stored.
MTNL offers the LMTS service to its users at a cost of Rs. 30 a month by May. And it will be available across Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai.
