New Amazon Kindle Paperwhite eReader hits India for Rs 10,999

The new Kindle Paperwhite eBook reader has gone official in India and is currently available in the country via Amazon’s website as well as various authorized retail channels in major cities. Its Wi-Fi-only version will cost you Rs 11,000, while the 3G + Wi-Fi variant has been pegged at Rs 13,999. They had gone up for pre-order back in January itself.

This Kindle eReader naturally offers access to the Amazon store and content that you purchase from here can be saved on the company’s very own cloud service. The 3G variant offers internet access without asking you to pay any monthly rentals or sign contracts. You can use the built-in Wi-Fi for web browsing on the other model.

Apt for one-handed use, the gadget with dimensions of 169 x 117 x 9.1 millimeters has a 6-inch Paperwhite display with Carta e-paper on the front that has a pixel density of 212ppi. The slate features a light that facilitates late night reading without causing eye strain.

The Paperwhite has 2GB of onboard memory which is enough to store as many as 1100 books. It takes about 4 hours to get completely charged and stays powered up for about 8 weeks if you use it for half an hour every day with Wi-Fi turned off and low light settings. There’s Whispersync too so you can continue reading your book on any gadget featuring the Kindle app.
