DataWind Aakash 2 UbiSlate 7+

The Aakash 2 or UbiSlate 7+ has finally hit Indian shores with better battery life, a faster processor and enhanced programming abilities when compared with the Aakash 1. DataWind has released the slab with an upgrade option to the 7C version. However, it will be applicable only for pre-ordered devices.

Based on the Android 2.3 platform, the gadget draws power from an 800MHz Cortex A8 processor. Additionally, it is equipped with HD video co-processors to deliver an enhanced multimedia experience. The default UbiSurfer browser paired with the core graphics accelerator adds speed to the buffer and enables easy access to a host of applications and websites with quicker app support. Wi-Fi and GPRS services are available to serve users with enhanced connectivity.

The slab is backed by 256MB RAM and hoards 2GB flash memory that can be expanded via a microSD card. Additionally, it also tags along a full-sized USB port that supports connectivity to peripherals like external keyboards and web-cams. Pen-drives, 3G modems and dongles can also be plugged in through the port. Furthermore, the device is juiced by up a 3000mAh battery.

As mentioned above, users who have pre-ordered the UbiSlate 7+ version will be sent emails with an upgrade option to the 7C version prior to delivery. The 7C slate sports nearly the same features as the 7+ apart from the capacitive touchscreen that has replaced the resistive display in the latter.

The Aakash 2 price in India is marked at Rs. 3,499. Users can also avail of the optional internet service at Rs. 98 per month on Aircel. The UbiSlate 7C will cost Rs. 4,299, while deliveries of the same are expected to start shortly.
