Not many tablets out there can boast of integrating Jelly Bean and the MIPS-based Karbonn Smart Tab 1 for India just happens to be one of those very few slabs. And that’s not all, users in the country will not have to shell out much to treat themselves to the latest Android platform as the device in question has been priced under Rs. 7,000.

This slate was first introduced earlier last month with the Ice Cream Sandwich platform, but will be available with the new OS henceforth. People who have already bought the tablet will be receiving an over-the-air Android 4.1 software update very soon. Moreover, it is fueled by a 1.2GHz processor and comes with a 3D G-sensor for an enhanced gaming experience.

“After joining with Ingenic to announce the world’s first Android 4.0 ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’ tablet in December, we have achieved numerous additional tablet design wins. Working closely with Ingenic and its OEMs, we are seeing increasing success for the MIPS architecture in tablets, especially in emerging markets such as China, Indonesia and now India,” commented Gideon Intrater, vice president of marketing, MIPS Technologies.

“With our deep expertise in Android development, we are able to quickly port new versions of Android to MIPS-Based devices, with speed that is second only to Google itself,” added Intrater.

Its front panel is fitted with a 17.8cm capacitive 5-point multi-touch screen along with a 2MP camera to facilitate video conferencing on the move. The Wi-Fi-certified slab embedded with an HDMI output, offers 3G network speeds with the help of an external dongle. Also, the 3,700mAh battery coughs up the juice for about 7 hours of uninterrupted internet surfing time or close to 25 hours of music playback time.

MIPS-based Jelly Bean tablet, Karbonn Smart Tab 1 priced at Rs. 6,999, is now shipping in India.
