UbiSlate 7+ up for pre-order in India, priced at Rs. 3,000

After the Aakash Android tablet, another slab from the company dubbed DataWind UbiSlate 7+ has entered India which is nothing, but an upgraded version of the former. The tab has gone up for pre-order and carries a price tag of Rs. 3,000 as opposed to Rs. 2,500 of Aakash.

According to TechCrunch, the device was announced few weeks back and can now be pre-booked. This next generation UbiSlate operates with Gingerbread platform, while its predecessor Aakash is deployed with the Froyo OS. Its front panel is dominated with a resistive touchscreen spanning 7 inches that delivers visuals in 800 x 480p resolutions.

“This is a made-in-India product. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to do this. The final goal is to either provide the same features at a lower cost or provide better functionality and features at the same cost,” quoted Suneet Singh Tuli, CEO of DataWind.

On the performance front also the tablet has received certain major upgrades. Instead of the 366MHz ARM 11 processor utilized in the prequel Aakash, the newer version is equipped with the Cortex A8 processor that clocks in a speed of 700MHz along with 256MB RAM. Its 2GB onboard memory can be increased through the expansion slot that supports microSD card of capacity up to 32GB.

The GPRS feature of the device bestows it with the SIM and phone functionality. And needless to say it comes with Wi-Fi capabilities. The device also supports high definition video playback. the 3,200mAh battery coughs up the juice for about 3 hours. And a USB 2.0 port facilitates connections to various peripherals.

The UbiSlate 7+ priced at Rs. 3,000, can now be pre-ordered from ubislate.com. It will start shipping in January.
