Besides the basic specifications that are laid down by the inventors, the UMPC can be designed in an enhanced version by manufacturers.

Prior models of the UMPC have never integrated a DVD drive. Thus, Singapore-based Kohjinsha has planned to launch an Ultra-mobile PC that features a DVD drive, that allows users to play and write DVD. Called the SR8KPO6S, this small version of laptop would become the first UMPC with Optical DVD drive.

The Windows Vista-based device runs on Intel “Stealey” A110 clocked processor at 800MHz and sports a 7-inch touchscreen display with 1024 x 600 resolution, a standard keyboard and touchpad, 802.11b/g, Bluetooth, a 1.3 megapixel shooter, a 60GB hard drive, Wireless LAN and Bluetooth.

While traveling, consumers can fold down the keyboard of the device and start operating it with the help of the included stylus.

In terms of the DVD burner, users have the freedom to disable the drive to save power. It supports double-layer DVD+R and DVD-R media.

Measuring 9.2x7x1.3-inch (WxHxD) and weighing 2.4lbs, the Kohjinsha SR8KPO6S UMPC works on battery that lasts up to 3.5hrs to 7hrs. The company keeps its silence on the price and availability.
