OCZ Octane SATA 6Gbps, Octane-S2 SATA 3Gbps SSDs unveiled

Octane Solid State Drives

OCZ Technology recently brought into the market two new SSDs, the Octane SATA 6Gbps and Octane-S2 SATA 3Gbps. Both these devices are based on the Indilinx Everest platform.

The company claims that the SSDs are the first ever to offer storage capacity of 1TB in a compact and portable space of 2.5-inch. They also offer high-speed data transfer rates along with access times which are touted to be record breaking, probably capable of providing a better user experience and enhanced application performance.

“Until now SSDs have been tailored for specific applications, forcing users into a product which maximizes performance for a narrow band of applications, but is significantly lacking in others,” said Ryan Petersen, CEO of OCZ Technology. “The Octane Series solves this problem by providing the highest level of performance across varied workloads including mixed file sizes and mixed compressible and uncompressible data, all while nearly doubling NAND flash endurance.”

The Indilinx Everest platform empowers the SSDs to deliver a bandwidth of up to 560MB/s and 45,000 IOPS. They also feature NDurance technology, which is aimed at increasing the lifespan of the NAND flash memory, thus enabling it to deliver a consistent and steadfast performance.

The key specifications of these gadgets include a dual core CPU, boot time reduction optimizations, up to 512MB DRAM cache, SMART reporting and more. The drives are designed in varying memory capacities ranging from 128GB to 1TB, with the other mentioned models offering storage of 256GB and 512GB.

The OCZ Octane SATA 6Gbps and Octane-S2 SATA 3Gbps Solid State Drives will be made available through the company’s global channels starting November 1.
