Seagate Pulsar XT.2, Pulsar.2 SSDs shipments announced

Seagate Pulsar XT.2 SSD The Seagate Pulsar XT.2 SSD has started shipping while the Pulsar.2 SSD will be released for users later this month. Both SSDs boast of 6Gb per second SAS which makes them faster than the previously launched solid state drives from Seagate.

The 2.5-inch Pulsar XT.2 SSD with SLC (Single Level Cell) flash of capacity 400GB claims to be capable of handling workloads including online transaction processing (OLTP), database or web indexing and email. The SSD meets the guidelines of the Storage Performance Council (SPC) along with conditions for data prefilling. Its SPC-1C result was 20,008.82 SPC-1 IOPS with an average response of 2.05 seconds in about 10 minutes.

“Most SSD suppliers aren’t fully aware of the needs of the enterprise. It isn’t just a fast interface like SAS, Fibre Channel, or PCIe that they need, and it isn’t just IOPS levels in the tens to hundreds of thousands. Without data integrity and reliability, an SSD is worthless to most enterprise users. Seagate’s undeniable leadership in the enterprise HDD market has given the company a deep understanding of the necessity of data integrity and endurance,” commented Jim Handy of Objective Analysis.

The Multi Level Cell (MLC) enabled Pulsar.2 solid state drive comes with 800GB storage. The SSD is said to be reliable due to its automatic function which identifies errors which could hamper the drive’s performance and rectifies them. Besides SAS, this storage device also supports SATA 6Gb per second interface. It claims to deliver a high performance in comparatively low costs.

The pricing details of the Seagate Pulsar XT.2 and Pulsar.2 solid state drives have not been mentioned.
