Samsung mSATA SSDs for Ultra-thin notebooks revealed

Samsung mSATA SSD For Notebooks The compact Samsung mSATA SSDs designed to be deployed in ultra-thin notebooks has entered volume production, announced the company. These solid state drives form a part of the Samsung PM830 product line which was released earlier this year.

These SSDs featuring the Mini-Serial ATA interface are said to render high performance when paired with multi-core processors which are integrated in Ultrabooks. The sleek devices tip the scale at eight grams and measure 50.95 x 30 x 3.8 millimeters. Besides 32GB for caching, these mSATA drives are available in capacities of 256GB, 128GB and 64GB as main storage devices.They utilize the 20 nanometer class NAND flash memory mechanism which in turn features the toggle DDR interface.

“Samsung’s compact mSATA SSDs will provide performance of the highest quality in helping to deliver the advanced ultra-slim PCs that consumers have been wanting. Samsung plans to continue providing timely delivery of advanced SSD solutions, while preserving its leadership position in the SSD market for notebook PCs,” stated Myungho Kim, vice president of memory marketing, Device Solutions, Samsung Electronics.

These drives are incorporated with the SATA 6Gb per second controllers and are capable of delivering high sequential 500MB per second read and 260MB per second write speeds. Besides facilitating quick system boot-ups, they claim to transfer up to five DVD files in a minute. Additionally, the hardware-based security solution and 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) protection eliminates the possibility of unauthorized access to personal data.

The Samsung mSATA SSDs engineered for Ultrabook-class PCs have entered volume production to be integrated in these sleek notebooks.
