Ultra-fast Samsung PM830 SSD supports SATA Revision 3.0 interface

Samsung PM830 SSD Promising swift performance, the Samsung PM830 solid state drive with the Serial ATA Revision 3.0 interface has entered mass production. The variants of this solid state drive will be available in capacities ranging from 128GB to 512GB.

Compliant with OEM notebooks and tablets, the solid state drive transmits data at the rate of 6Gb per second. Along with faster download from DVDs in comparatively lesser time, the SSD quickens the boot-up of the system by 10 seconds. Employing the 32 Gigabit multilevel cell (MLC) NAND memory chip with toggle DDR interface, the storage device claims to deliver exceptional performance.

“Samsung’s new line up of advanced solid state drives will raise the performance bar to the next level for ultra-slim notebooks and tablets and accelerate growth of the market for high-performance SSDs. The industry is expected to quickly embrace SATA 6Gb per second-based SSDs, which also will help increase market interest in 256GB and higher densities significantly,” stated Wanhoon Hong, executive vice president, memory sales & marketing, Device Solutions, Samsung Electronics.

With double the efficiency of SATA 3Gb per second drive, the Samsung PM830 drive offers sequential read and write speeds of 500MB per second and 350MB per second, respectively. Moreover, the storage device is integrated with security features like AES 256-bit encryption algorithm to safeguard data. The solid state drive is available in densities of 512GB, 256GB and 128GB.

The market research by IDC reveals the demand for 512GB solid state drives is likely to grow from 0.3 percent to about eight percent by 2015. The SSD is set to enter the market with an aim to replace SATA 3Gb per second SSDs by the end of this year.

Mass production of the Samsung PM830 solid state drive started earlier this month though its pricing details have not been mentioned.
