With manufacturers crafting innovative and competitive portable hard drives, the storage segment seems to be completely bulged out. Just after OCZ’s Onyx drives, Patriot has now released its new 4 x 4 series of 5.25-inch bay enclosures for 2.5-inch hard disk drives or solid state drives, the Convoy 425S and 425XL.
The new Convoy 425S and 425XL storage devices offer users a simple-to-install solution for up to four 2.5-inch hard disk drive or solid state drive, with the latter one featuring RAID functionality. Patriot’s 4 x 4 enclosures flaunt an industrial design equipping rugged aluminum housing and two 400mm fans for enhanced cooling and heat dissipation.
Apart from this, these enclosures have four individually hot-swappable drive trays and support HDD or SSD drives up to 12.5mm in height. Exhibited during the 2010 Computex trade show, the offerings emerge to be perfect for establishing a performance–oriented solution with scalability.
“What started as a way to promote our expertise with large scale SSD storage PCs, evolved into the Convoy 425 series of enclosures,†commented Jack Chen Director of Business Development. “Expanding on the existing Convoy family of two drive enclosures and offering the four drive enclosures provided an improvement on storage density and performance. The integrated RAID functionality of the Convoy 425XL offers a great step up in features from earlier products and an excellent solution for users building high-density high-performance storage systems.â€
Further, the hardware RAID functionality on the Convoy 425XL version puts forth RAID 0, 1, 3, 5, 10 and JBOD which can be easily configured using the dip switches found on the EZ RAID back-plane.
Well, as of now, there’s no official word on the pricing and availability details of Patriot’s new offerings.
