Samsung announces its new S Series external hard disk drives consisting of a 2.5-inch drive S2 Portable and a 1.8-inch HDD S1 Mini. The new sleek external drives sport a high glossy casing with a leather back-cover. They are available in four colors namely piano black, snow white, wine red, and chocolate brown.
“With an explosive 20 percent annual growth in the notebook market, external hard drives have become a popular and rapidly growing data storage medium,†said Tae-Yeop Oh, vice president, storage marketing, Samsung Electronics. “Samsung’s line-up of external drives is tailored for demanding consumers who want the best in capacity, reliability and industrial design.â€
The Samsung S Series hard drives come with a smaller case footprint, USB on-board technology reduces the weight and the power consumption of these drives. A power savings intelligence program monitors the drive as well as places it into a low power sleep mode whenever not in use for 10 minutes.
It also bundles up Samsung’s Auto backup function, SecretZone and password-protecting SafetyKey. The 2.5-inch drive S2 Portable weighs 154 grams and is available in storage capacities of 160 GB, 250 GB, 320 GB and 500 GB while the 91 gram credit card-sized 1.8-inch S1 Mini comes in 80 GB, 120 GB and 160 GB of storage capacities.
The S Series will be hit the US markets in Q4.
