Silicon Power Marvel M60 review

Silicon Power Marvel M60 Drive

As expected from a Silicon Power device, the SP Marvel M60 flash drive adorns those striking looks that we have time and again associated with most gadgets from this company. Creative twists and trendy looks have always been the USP of gadgets sporting the Silicon Power logo and this device too rightfully takes the legacy forward. With no compromises with the appearance factor whatsoever this flash drive did turn more than a few heads when it landed on our desk for a review. So scroll down to read what we have squiggled below about this media storage device.

Sans any ostentatious packaging, it seems like the flash drive wants its performance to do all the talking. Wrapped in a simple package, the device confidently shows off its stylish form factor through the transparent plastic on the front side while its features are jotted down on the flip side. Well, that’s about it. Not that we were expecting anything more in the packet but an accompanying USB cable would do no harm. Now what sits in our hands comfortably is the sturdy Marvel M60 USB 3.0 flash drive of capacity 32GB.

The metallic device appears rugged but is surprisingly very light. The pitch black flash drive sports a chrome-plating on the front side which gives it a classy look. Unlike most other drives, it flaunts a broad chassis which adds to the appearance while making it look strong and durable. The retractable USB connector on one side gives way to a lidless design while the opposite side sports a carved out bar to attach the drive to key chains or mobile phones. Its slider is comfortably positioned on the spacious flip side to expose the connector with a simple glide gesture. The only disappointing aspect of the storage device is its strong affiliation towards fingerprints and scratches. Nevertheless, we found the exterior of this media storage device pretty impressive.

The LED indicator on the front side of the device flashes blue light as soon as we connect it to a system. The drive measuring 73mm x 22mm x 9mm tips the scale at 15 grams. While these measurements leave no doubts about the portability of the device, its packet confidently announces the lifetime warranty which takes care of all questions regarding the durability. As it sports a pull-out design, all possibilities of losing the cap are eliminated and its slider seems sturdy enough to last long. To add to it, the drive meets all guidelines laid down by RoHS and is CE FC certified.

Marvel M60 boasts of its compatibility with operating systems like Windows, Mac 10.3.x or above and Linux 2.6.x and later. The drive employs the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 user interface and is compliant with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 ports. We tested the read and write speeds of the drive on our Lenovo IdeaPad laptop operating on Windows 7 platform and we could read about 1.4GB data in less than a minute while writing the same data took little more than a minute. And extended use of the device does increase its temperature. Similar to most Silicon Power devices, this drive too provides access to the SP Widget software download to offer various data encryptions and backup tools.

To wrap it up, we found the Marvel M60 flash drive to be an apt storage device to carry around. The user interface delivers high-performance that one seeks while the trendy looks make it the object of envy. Our review unit is of capacity 32GB but it is also available in 64GB variant and starts at Rs. 3,399. Though the price tag attached to the Silicon Power Marvel M60 USB 3.0 flash drive is a dampener, we would still recommend it as the device seems durable. It earns a rating of 8 on 10 from us.
