Many users who are awaiting the replacement of their recalled first generation iPod nano may be in for a sweet surprise, since Apple is apparently ensuring they trade it in with the sixth generation version of the audio gadget. Reports are said to be flying in about people actually receiving the substitutes, albeit without the warranty.

For those who haven’t been clued in, the September 2005 to December 2006 batch of the first generation iPod nano was recalled by the Cupertino company because the battery supposedly came with the risk of overheating. Originally, recalled units were being exchanged with refurbished first generation piece, though it now appears that the company ran out of these. A post on MacRumors reports that Apple is now giving away sixth generation iPod nanos as replacements for users who happened to turn in their first generation models.

The device was initially brought out in 2GB and 4GB variants, while the current nano stepped out in 8GB and 16GB versions. The sixth generation offering is smaller than any of its predecessors and it wears a 2-inch capacitive touchscreen. Users who are in the queue to receive the replacement could probably be greeted by one of the latest models at their doorstep. As for those who’re not sure about the make of their miniscule iDevice, the first generation construct has a black or white plastic front and a silver metal back.

Well, we can’t see anyone complaining about the fact that Apple is reportedly replacing recalled the iPod nano with the sixth generation one for users.
