Sony Unveils Walkman X-series and W-series MP3 Players

Sony Walkman X-seires and W-series Sony has announced the launch of two new ranges of MP3 player under its Walkman brand, namely the X Series Video MP3 Player and W Series MP3 Player.

The Walkman X line of MP3 player’s (NWZ-X1050/1060) features include a 3-inch OLED wide touchscreen, S-Master Digital Amplifier and Clear Audio technologies for exceptional audio performance, Digital Noise Cancelling for the most effective noise reduction and Hybrid controls (touchscreen plus buttons) for simple operation.

Furthermore, the slim and compact video player sports other features like scene scroll function for distraction-free video playback, ability to connect the unit to the plane’s AV system through the included connector, Wi-Fi connectivity for Easy YouTube streaming and Podcast direct downloading and internet browsing. It is compatible with MP3, AAC (Non DRM), WMA (DRM), Linear PCM, AVC (H.264/AVC) Baseline Profile, MPEG-4 Simple Profile and WMV Main multimedia file formats for audio and video playback.

Available in 16 GB and 32 GB capacity, the X-series media player also includes FM Turner, Clear Stereo, Clear Bass, DSEE and EX headphones.

Coming to the next line of MP3 player, the headphone-style Walkman W Series (NWZ-W202) eliminates the need of a cable and offers superior sound quality with 13.5mm EX headphones. It integrates a new ZAPPIN mode that allows users to quickly and easily find songs for playback.

Available in 2 GB storage configuration, the W series supports MP3/AAC (Non DRM)/WMA (DRM) / Linear PCM audio file formats. The included ‘Content Transfer’ software makes its easy to transfer non-DRM files from iTunes and other online music services by a drag-and-drop function.

Both the Sony Walkman X and W series MP3 players are expected to reach the markets by spring 2009. However, the details on pricing yet to be announced.
