Microsoft sells more than 1 Million Zunes

Zune Sells 1 Million Zunes Soon after launching Zune Halo-3 edition, the Microsoft device is in limelight again. The reason is that more than 1 million Zune digital media players are sold by Microsoft in just nine months.

It was a better than expected success for Microsoft, as Zune achieved its target of 1 Million in May instead of June, which was the original target. Microsoft had aimed to sell 1 Million Zunes by end of the June.

According to Robbie Bach, the president of Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices Division, Zune has a 10 percent market share in the hard-disk-based music player category.

Yet Zune is far behind the iPod both in terms of number of users and popularity. Thus Microsoft is expected to introduce a new edition of Zune in near future.

Bach expanded the point of new editions by saying, “You’re going to see us expand in that space, a little bit more from the social aspects of connecting people together, a little more than just a store. As to the Wi-Fi, we think the idea of these devices being connected where you want them connected is very important. That’s why we shipped the original Zune with Wi-Fi built in. The cool thing about that is the innovation can all be in software.”

Thus, music enthusiasts can expect exciting innovations in Zune soon, which will make the Zune a better device.
