The Synology RackStation RS812 four-bay scalable and RS212 two-bay compact rackmount NAS servers were recently debuted by the company. These network attached storage devices are said to be apt for small offices and workgroups for providing convenient data sharing.

The company claims that the RS812 and RS212 are capable of serving as perfect data backup options as well as versatile business applications. Both of them operate on a 1.6GHz processer and run on DiskStation Manager 3.2 (DSM 3.2). The devices feature two USB and on eSATA port each.

Wayne An, product manager of Synology explained, “The RS812 and the RS212 both come with dual LAN failover and hot-swappable HDD support to guard against LAN or disk failure, providing reliable solutions at an economical price point. Both models are certified by Mware, Sphere, Citrix XenServer and Microsoft Hyper-V to work as storage solutions for virtualization servers.”

The RS812 consumes 37watts of energy and possesses 512MB RAM. It can store up to 8 hard drives on-the-fly when paired with a Synology RX410 expansion unit. This offering delivers read and write speeds of up to 109.7 MB/sec and 50.6 MB/sec, respectively.

Measuring 12-inches in depth, the slim RS212 offers users 256MB RAM and fits snugly into 2-post and wall mount rack cabinets. It is believed to be beneficial for those who have small working spaces and comes accompanied by a replaceable motherboard. This Synology tool is integrated with I/O ports on the front panel to streamline the server management process.

Although the Synology RackStation RS812 and RS212 network attached storage tools have started shipping, details regarding their availability and price have not yet been revealed.
