Well, the European set-top box manufacturer, Amino Communications is back with its latest set-top box. This new device called the IPTV box incorporates Intel’s Atom CE4100 processor. The IPTV was announced during the IDF.

This new device is said to cater to the dynamic needs of consumers. The Amino IPTV claims to provide support for high-definition video, home-theatre quality audio as well as advanced 3D graphics. The improved performance, flexibility and compatibility with different hardware enhance the appeal of this device.

According to Amino CTO Dominique Le Foll, “The CE4100 is a powerful media processor that is designed specifically for home entertainment and enables a greatly enhanced consumer experience. As one of the first IPTV solutions providers to demonstrate its capabilities, we are very encouraged by the response from customers and partners particularly to its OTT capabilities.”

“With new Internet-based services and applications coming to TV, there is a need for a new generation of set-top boxes,” said Keith Wehmeyer, General Manager, IPTV, Digital Home Group, Intel Corporation. “Amino recognizes the requirements for processor performance and high-quality video and graphics, and is designing a set top box based on Intel’s CE4100 media processor to provide a premium entertainment experience to consumers.”

It features multi-stream video decoding and processing hardware. The IPTV set-top box also includes support for 2-channels of 800MHz DDR2 or 1333MHz DDR3. The CE4100 processor will enable IPTV STBs to deliver a full open Internet experience. The other features include dedicated multi-channel dual audio DSPs, and support for multiple peripherals with USB 2.0.

The pricing and availability details of this device are yet to be disclosed.
