Samsung has announced the availability of its SE-S084B series of external DVD writer in the US.
Weighing only 0.4kg, the slim DVD writer series is available in a 8X DVD+R and DVD-R writer, a 6X DVD+R, -R Dual Layer writer and a 5X DVD-RAM writer, with color options of black, white, silver, pink, blue, sky-blue and red.
Developed to complement mini-notebook and netbook PCs, the SE-S084B series works on a single interconnect cable to transmit data and even provide energy. Users can also mount the drive horizontally or vertically.
Connected through a USB port, the new line of tray-type DVD writers requires no separate power cable for trouble-free operation. Other than that, the easy-to-carry drive is compatible with 8cm or 12cm media and feature burn speeds up to 8X for DVD+R or 24X with CD-R.
Compliant with RoHS standards, the latest external drive lineup comes with a low-noise mode and a high-speed mode with lead-free solder support.
“By adopting lead-free soldering technology, the SE-S084B has an eco-friendly design and is RoHS compliant. The new external DVD writers offer a wide choice of color and added portability for enhanced usability,†said Jin-soo Lee, vice president of strategic marketing for Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology.
Moreover, the portable SE-S084B DVD writers incorporate SAT (Speed Adjustment Technology), TAC (Tilt Actuator Compensation) and Double OPC (Optimum Power Control) to offer best-of-breed performance.
The device also comes equipped with Buffer Under Run Free Technology that stabilizes writing operation under high speed and Magic Speed and ABS (Automatic Ball Balancing System) technologies that eliminate vibration and noise.
The Samsung SE-S084B series of external DVD writer carries a price tag of $79.99 (approx. Rs. 3,895).
