Dahon BioLogic FreeCharge USB charger powers devices with pedal power

Dahon FreeCharge Charger

Dahon has unveiled a unique device called the Dahon BioLogic FreeCharge USB charger, according to Ubergizmo. The concept of this charger is quite different from the USB chargers available in the market. Unlike many other USB chargers, this one doesn’t attach itself to the dashboard of a car. Rather, it connects to a bicycle and utilizes the mechanical energy, to charge mobile devices. Thus, the charger promises to keep its users healthy and their portable devices charged up. Basically, the charger coverts the energy put in by users to pedal the bicycle into electric energy that charges the devices.

This charger is said to charge portable USB devices with the help of a bicycle. The charger consists of a tiny silicone-encased box that has to be connected to the bicycle’s generator hub. This box is built around a battery that promises to smooth the spikes and dips caused due to fast or slow cycling speeds. This helps to ensure that the device gets properly charged. It also eliminates the fear of the device getting spoilt due to fluctuations in power.

Users will have to ride the cycle for around three hours in order to fully charge a device. We feel that this charger will surely hold the attention of people who love cycling trips.

This charger is compatible with a host of devices including the Apple iPod. The Dahon BioLogic FreeCharge charger is expected to release in March 2010. The device is said to retail for around $100 (approx. Rs. 4,866). Well, this charger is an interesting concept that has the potential to win many hearts if implemented properly.
