Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset with 45nm technology

Qualcomm Snapdragon Chipset Qualcomm has expanded its Snapdragon series of chipsets with the launch of new QSD8650A for smartbooks and smartphones. This chipset employs 45 nanometer (nm) technology to deliver longer battery life, faster processing and other enhancements.

It offers improved multimedia, 2D/3D graphics and 30 percent greater performance using the 1.3GHz processor. It consumes overall 30 percent less power and utilizes mere 10 milliwatts at standby. This is made possible by the 45nm technology.

“This latest addition to the growing family of Snapdragon chipsets will help our customers to develop faster, more power-efficient smartphones and smartbooks,” said Luis Pineda, senior vice president of marketing and product management at Qualcomm CDMA Technologies. “This new 45 nm device shows our continued commitment to extending the capabilities of the Snapdragon platform with leading-edge process technology and an expanded list of integrated features.”

This 15mm x 15mm size chipset provides high level of integration. Along with faster bus speed, it also provides multi-mode UMTS and CDMA 3G mobile broadband connectivity. Moreover, the integrated AdobeFlash software functions more effectively as the chipset also contains improved 3D graphics core and power-efficient 2D graphics accelerator.

Additionally, QSD8650A comes with included GPS, Bluetooth 2.1 technology, HD video recording and playback, high resolution WGXA displays, mobile TV technologies like DVB-H, ISDB-T and MediaFLO along with support for WiFi.

Samples of Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8650A chipset will be available by the end of 2009. However, the pricing details are yet to be disclosed.
