Xerox to Offer High Priced, Cost Effective Printers in US

Xerox Logo If you think that HP is the the only brand to offer cost effective printers, then think again. Now Xerox, one of the leading manufacturers of printers, has announced to launch five printers, which promise to cut the cost of color printing for high-volume users. But interested users will have to pay more initially.

The newly introduced printers including Phaser 8860, feature new solid-ink technology that reduces the cost of printing per page. Manufacturer claims that the new solid ink uses wax ink sticks instead of the cartridges of powdered toner found in laser printers.

“If you compare HP color toner to what our inks will be, we will be one-fifth the price. We think it’s going to help us grow our market share and attract a lot of customers who maybe don’t consider Xerox today,” said Jim Rise, a Xerox vice president.

Xerox says that its new range of printers reduces cost of printing a color page to about 5 cents a page.

These printers reduce the cost of printing per page but buyers have to invest more at the time of buying the peripheral. Analyst Angela Boyd of research firm IDC said that buyers will have to pay nearly $1,000 more than other Xerox products with similar functions, which may lead some potential buyers to think twice.

“It’s targeted at the person who has made up their mind they want color. It’s not for the person who is happy with their black-and-white laser machine,” said Boyd. “Eighty percent of the world is still buying black-and-white laser machines.”

Competing with HP will not be so easy for Xerox. It will have to work hard to convince potential customers about the cost effectiveness of these high priced printers.
