HTC Desire U price for Taiwan revealed, mid-range ICS phone employs 1GHz chip

The HTC Desire U is the latest device from the company to have been launched in Taiwan for a price of around $275. But nothing has been mentioned about this smartphone’s global availability as yet.

The Desire U is a mid-range handset that offers decent specifications without breaking the bank. According to the OEM’s Taiwanese website, its front panel is graced by a WVGA display that offers a multi-touch real estate of 4 inches and lets users view clear visuals in 480 x 800p resolution. It comes encased in a form factor with dimensions of 118.5 x 62.3 x 9.32 millimeters and tips the scales at 119 grams when weighed along with the battery.

An unspecified processor that clocks in a speed of 1GHz is responsible for keeping its internal system running and allowing users to multitask by launching more than one application at the same time. 512MB of RAM has been deployed to assist the chipset and maintain smooth navigation and transitions between apps. As for the OS, it binges on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich platform and should let prospective customers visit the Google Play store.

It is compatible with standard SIM cards and ships with an expansion slot to increase its onboard storage capacity of 4GB, probably by up to 32GB. The handset can run on 2G and 3G mobile networks like GSM, GPRS, EDGE, HSPA as well as WCDMA and has built-in Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 b/g/n for internet access via an open hotspot. There’s Bluetooth 4.0 for wireless data transfer to and from compliant devices too.

Moreover, the HTC phone is integrated with the Beats Audio technology and its music player supports file formats such as MP3, WAV, WMA, OGG and AMR to name a few. A 5MP camera with auto focus and LED flash has been fitted on the flip side and it gains steam from a 1650mAh battery.

According to the guys over at Android Central, the unlocked HTC Desire U will be available for $275 (approx. Rs. 14,790).
