Nokia N9 dressed in white, gets a software update

Nokia N9 White

After making its debut earlier this year, the Nokia N9 has now received a little do up with a new white color and a software update. The N9 will now be seen in refreshing shade of white, and the entire line-up will get some new capabilities as well.

Since it first hit markets, this handset was seen in vivid hues like cyan, black, and magenta. These previous shades were all finished in matte. To differ from this, the new white tone will sport a glossy finish.

Frank Zillikens, product marketing for this handset explains that while there were several devices in the market available in this shade, Nokia took its own time as it wanted to assure that it delivers the best possible quality for consumers. Zillikens also mentioned that the manufacturing process for beautiful white products is quite complex.

Announced along with this, the new software update will offer enhanced usability with user friendly improvements like music controls keys from the lock screen or closing apps by swiping them down by default. Additionally, NFC tag reading will also be included.

This N9 handset shows off an AMOLED capacitive touchscreen of 3.9 inches. It displays in a resolution of 854 x 480 pixels on its curved, anti-glare polarizer, scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla glass display. The device measures 116.45 x 61.2 x 7.6-12.1 millimeters and weighs 135g. It also sports an 8MP AF camera with Carl Zeiss lens. The phone is currently available in memory capacities of 16GB and 64GB and operates on the MeeGo mobile platform.

The software update as well as the white variant of the Nokia N9 will both be made available in 4Q11. The new handset will be available only in a 64GB option to start off with.
