Possessing features similar to those of the 700 handset, the Nokia 701 smartphone featuring a bright screen has been announced through the Nokia Conversations blog. Employing the Symbian Belle operating system under the hood, the 11mm thin smartphone sports a stylish curvy look.

Like its other counterpart, this smartphone too runs on a 1GHz processor in addition to the Symbian Belle OS. Powered by BL-5K 1300mAh lithium ion battery, it provides a talk time of up to 17 hours in GSM mode while a standby time of up to 504 hours. Also, it is capable of offering a video playback of up to 8 hours and music playback of around 71 hours.

The key attraction of the Nokia 701 smartphone is its 3.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive multitouch display. Claimed to be the brightest display, it integrates the ClearBlack technology and obtains the sturdiness through the Corning Gorilla glass. Besides a viewing angle of 160 degrees, the screen of resolution 640 x 360 incorporates sensors like accelerometer, ambient light detector and proximity sensor.

Additionally, it is also equipped with a graphics co-processor with extended graphics memory and faster clock. The Nokia 701 is fitted with an 8 megapixel rear facing camera with dual-LED flash in addition to a front facing camera facilitating video conferencing. The microSD card slot allows expanding the 8GB internal memory up to 32GB.

Apart from support for NFC, the smartphone comes with pentaband radio and HSUPA 3G functionality. Wireless connectivity options are inclusive of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth while it can be connected to various devices through the high-speed USB 2.0 port and 3.5mm audio jack. It also offers the GPS function along with FM radio, audio and video players.

The Nokia 701 smartphone splashed with shades of steel dark, silver light, amethyst violet and white carries a price tag of EUR 290 (approx. Rs. 19,299). It will hit stores in the third quarter of 2011.
