RIM releases BlackBerry Torch 9860 full-touch smartphone in India

Just before the festive season, RIM launched the BlackBerry Torch 9860 smartphone in India, at an event held in Mumbai. This full touch smartphone from RIM operates on the latest BlackBerry 7 operating system.

Flaunting it as the largest ever for any BlackBerry smartphone, the device possesses a 3.7-inch full touchscreen, graced with the Liquid Graphics technology which enhances the fluidity. It also takes care of image details and swiftness in navigation. This combined with the operating system delivers better multitasking and interface experience, says the company.

This powerful new smartphone features many new enhancements, including the next generation BlackBerry 7 operating system, and we think customers will be particularly thrilled by the faster performance, enhanced browsing and richer multimedia,” explained Frenny Bawa, Managing Director, India at Research In Motion on the occasion of the launch of the Torch 9860 in Mumbai.

The Torch 9860 delivers 40 percent faster performance as compared to the version 6 based devices of the OS. This is also being attributed to the BlackBerry Browser which is supported by the advanced WebKit browser engine. Additional enhancements to this handset include the optimized HTML5 which ensures improved videos and gaming sessions.

The BlackBerry Torch 9860 is now available in India for a price that reads Rs. 28, 490.
