Motorola Droid R2-D2 handset comes to Verizon Wireless

Droid R2-D2 Smartphone Motorola’s Defy landed on the T-Mobile terrain in the middle of this month. Now, Verizon Wireless is bringing in the limited edition of Droid R2-D2 smartphone by Motorola. This limited edition is fabricated around the theme of the iconic Astromech Droid from the Star Wars Saga.

The newly unfurled handset will be packed in a custom box which resembles carbonite as well as subsumes a Star Wars media dock and wired stereo headset. Exclusive notification sounds and ringtones, four live wallpapers, R2-D2 clock widget, binoculars application, and ‘the Best of R2-D2’ video with the original Cantina music are pre-loaded on the device. The Star Wars is celebrating 30 years since the film hit theaters by offering the Empire Strikes Back app from the Android Market to users using Android 2.1 devices or higher. This application is anticipated to release soon.

Users with Android 2.1 handset can avail of the Star Wars Mobile application as well. This app is filled to the brim with bounty hunt visual ID, sound and photo gallery, trivia challenge, and widgets. Live wallpapers, subsuming blast the probe droid, luke balancing yoda, navigating the asteroid field, and watch bespin’s cloud city are also bundled in. Additionally, the Empire Strikes Back app allows Jedi Masters to browse, preview and download Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back content.

The Droid R2-D2 by Motorola is expected to be available beginning September 30 for $249 (approx Rs. 11,244) after a $100 (approx Rs. 4,515) mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement.

Users will be required to subscribe to a nationwide talk plan or a nationwide talk & text plan which begins at $39.99 (approx Rs. 1,805) for monthly access and an email and Web for smartphone plan that starts at $29.99 (approx Rs. 1,354) for unlimited monthly access. Besides, Verizon Wireless customers can access premium Star Wars content for a one-time charge of $2.99 (approx Rs. 135).
