Sony Ericsson unveils new Xperia X10 mini and mini pro phones

Phone buffs enticed by an exquisite piece and a stunning ultra-compact design may want to feast their eyes on this bit of news. Just after Vivaz pro made everyone wag the tongue, Sony Ericsson has announced two new mobile phones dubbed the Xperia X10 mini and Xperia X10 mini pro.

Aligning with the company’s ‘human curvature’ design philosophy, both phones run the Android operating system and are built around the customizable UX platform. Engraved in compact form factor, the devices for sure clinch a truckload of innovative features.

Both the phones come equipped with 2.5-inch 240 x 320p QVGA touchscreen displays that are scratch resistant and slide-out QWERTY keyboards. They feature in-built 5 megapixel cameras with geo-tagging, Sony Ericsson Album application, photo and video light as also video recording capabilities. The memory capacities offered include 128MB internal storage that is expandable up to 16GB with a SanDisk microSD card. In addition, the integrated 600 MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processors power both the units that run the Android 1.6 OS.

“There has been an enormous buzz around Xperia X10 so it is really exciting to be already unveiling compact versions of this powerful proposition,” stated Rikko Sakaguchi, EVP and Chief Creation Officer, Sony Ericsson. “With the X10 mini and X10 mini pro we have pushed the boundaries of what is possible with smaller devices and are giving consumers exactly what they want; two high performance mobile phones with a fully customisable user experience platform and a stunning ultra-compact design.”

Users can now easily put all their communication in one place including Facebook updates, missed calls, inbox messages, friend requests, and incoming SMS/MMS, thanks to the proprietary Timescape application. In addition, the mini and mini pro embrace e-mail, IM, Exchange ActiveSync, SMS, and MMS under the messaging option.

Other noticeable aspects include Bluetooth stereo A2DP support, 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB mass support, NeoReader barcode scanning application and microUSB connector. Features like A-GPS, Wisepilot, Google Maps, FM radio, media player and the Quadrapop game also exist. The latest offerings operate within UMTS HSPA 900/2100, GSM GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900, UMTS HSPA 850/1900/2100 and GSM GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 networks and are sold with 2GB microSD cards.

Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X10 mini is scheduled to be available in black, pearl white, pink, lime, red and silver while the mini pro will shimmer in red and black. Both the phones are expected to be released within the first half of 2010. The pricing details are under the covers for now.
