Lenovo to launch OPhone O1

Lenovo OPhone O1 Handset In an era where all eyes are glued to the Palm Pre and iPhone 3GS, Lenovo is gearing up to launch its new OPhone. The Android-based OPhone O1 from Lenovo is all set to make an appearance next month, reports Engadget. Although Lenovo looks confident about its next month launch, we fear that this new entrant will have to face fierce competition from the existing giants.

The OPhone O1 is powered by Lenovo’s very own Android-based operating system called the Open Mobile System. Although this phone resembles the iPhone in a few ways, it does incorporate a unique set of hardware.

Lenovo is planning to offer the O1 in two models at the same time. The first will be a 3G model that will bundle up a 5 megapixel camera. The second is an Edge model that will incorporate a 3.2 megapixel camera. The complete specifications of this phone are still under wraps.

The OPhone O1 will be exclusively available at China Mobile. But we still doubt if it would sustain its position in the market. The pricing details of the O1 have been carefully guarded.
