Motorola Aura Phone Featuring Circular Display Unveiled

Motorola announced the launch of the world’s first circular display mobile phone, dubbed Aura.

The phone is said to be inspired by luxury watches and handcrafted design. The Aura luxury phone features the 16 million colors and 300 dpi resolution on its liquid-crystal circular display.

It sports a Grade 1, 62-carat sapphire crystal lens which is said to be one of the most scratch-resistant materials on earth.

The company says front piece of the phone alone takes nearly two weeks to create as the stainless steel housing has to be sculpted, electro and hand polished, chemically etched and PVD coated.

The Motorola Aura phone comes with a1.55-inch LCD round display (diameter) that is capable of delivering 480 pixel (diameter) and aluminum keypad. The other value-added features of the masterpiece from Motorola are its proprietary CrystalTalk technology Stereo Bluetooth, 2.0 megapixel fixed focus camera, 2 GB internal memory and USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connectivity.

Apart from the above mentioned features, the GSM-based Aura handset runs on an open source browser, allowing users to access MMS, SMS and Email. It also includes video recording, playback and streaming capability, supporting H.263, H.264, MPEG4 file formats. The compatible audio files include AAC, AAC+, AAC+ Enhanced, MIDI, MP3, WAV, WMA v10 and WMA v9.

At just 141g and 47.60 x 96.87 x 18.55mm, the Aura phone offers a talk time of up to 7.3 hours and a stand by time of up to 300 hours.

Although the pricing is not known, the Motorola Aura mobile phone will hit the global market by Q4 2008.
