D-Link Boxee Box arrives in India

D-Link Boxee BoxThe popular Boxee Box by D-Link recently hit shores of India. It is a Linux-based set-top device and media extender which had released last year and delivers a supposedly enriching multimedia experience to users on their TV sets.

Users merely have to connect the Boxee Box to the Internet through a wireless or wired connection and plug in an HDMI cable to view the content. It presents them with movies, TV shows, music and pictures from their computer, home network and the Web onto their HDTV, eliminating any need of the PC. Users can even trade content with their friends by accessing social networks like Facebook and Twitter through the device.

This device is capable of supporting almost all types of video, picture and audio formats. The company claims that their little box provides users with hundreds of TV shows and movies just by the click of a button and thus they do not need to browse through hordes of Web sites. The number of Internet users who are currently enjoying online entertainment after downloading Boxee is said to be close to a million.

The Boxee Box is said to be ideal for HDTVs and allows users to add their own favorite entertainment sources via simple RSS and XML feeds as well as create or download plug-ins, add-ons and games. Accompanied by a QWERTY remote control, it incorporates a wide Web library spanning university courses, panel discussions, academic lectures, presentations, web-only videos and more from TED, Stanford, FORA.tv, Kid Mango and Next New Networks.

Boxee Box by D-Link will be available across India at leading retail outlets and through the company’s network of channel partners. It is priced at Rs. 13,999 and comes with a one year warranty.
