Active Media Low-Profile 9-Pin USB 2.0 Disk On Module Drives Unveiled

Active Media USB DOM Drive Active Media Products announced today, the availability of its 8GB and 16GB Active Media low-profile 9-pin USB 2.0 disk on module (DOM) drives. Designed for low-key enclosures, these drives are suitable for servers and embedded computing applications.

These type-1 USB DOMs measure just 35mm x 21mm and their maximum active power is rated at 150MA. Furthermore, these little gadgets are shock resistant and offer protection against dust, vibration and extreme temperatures. Their shield is touted by the makers as being superior to hard drives. Moreover, these USB DOMs are apparently compatible with ‘thousands’ of different motherboards.

Active Media Products VP of Sales, Jerry Thomson, shared, “We’re continuing to expand our lineup of DOM products, which already includes 9 different types of SATA and PATA DOMs in capacities up to 64GB. These new USB DOMs are by far the smallest, lightest and lowest power drives in our DOM family,”

The 8GB model of this series is named N8G-UT1 while its 16GB version is called N16G-UT1. Both versions work with all operating systems and any microprocessor by recognizing themselves as external storage drives. These USB DOMs are made with MLC NAND Flash technology and feature Error Correction for server-class reliability. Manufacturers claim their sequential read speeds to be up to 26MB/sec and the sequential write speeds up to 12MB/sec.

The 8GB and 16GB Active Media low-profile 9-pin USB 2.0 disk on module drives are currently available for purchase on Amazon and through Active Media’s website. They can be bought at a price of 36 USD (approx Rs. 1634) for the 8GB model and 65 USD (approx Rs. 2,950) for the 16GB version.
