Philips Urban Beehive concept to deliver honey directly into living rooms

Philips Urban Beehive

Imagine receiving fresh honey right at the window of a lofty apartment in the city and if it is difficult to do so, then Philips urban beehive concept aims to make it easier. With the ongoing concern of declining global bee colonies, this innovative concept by the company may probably receive an approval from urban dwellers, who often prefer a dash of this golden syrup to go with their morning breakfast.

The device is required to be setup at the window and consists of two parts, one with the flower pot and the entry for the bees that will be located on the outside, while the glass pod encasing the honeycomb is accommodated on the inside, right in the users’ living rooms. A passage allows bees to travel between the flower pot and the hive, further giving a push to pollination in the city.

Users won’t have to worry about enraged bees when collecting honey as this device employs traditional methods of calming the little creatures with smoke. The lower portion of the glass shell features a smoke activator that will release the smoke. The upper part of this encasing can be removed to collect honey that gets accumulated at the top, eliminating direct contact with the bees.

The setup combines traditional methods and a contemporary design to complement living rooms in city apartments. The glass encasing also allows residents to observe the day-to-day activities of the bees and how they manufacture this natural sweeter for users to enjoy.

The Philips urban beehive concept is delivered as part of the company’s ‘Microbial Home’ design project.
