Philips develops OLED-based interactive lighting concepts

Philips OLED lighting conceptsUsers can brighten up their lives with Philips’ latest developed concept. The company claims to have introduced a revolutionary technology, the world’s first OLED-based interactive lighting concepts.

Showcased at the Euroluce International Lighting Fair in Milan, this product can be used by professionals as well as casual consumers. The lighting concepts by Philips are interactive and sport ultra flat shapes, soft light-effects and a unique design. Years of research carried out by the company in the field of solid-state lighting resulted in this type of technology.

Rudy Provoost, CEO of Philips Lighting stated, “In addition to our expertise in LEDs, we are now unlocking the great potential of flat, energy-efficient OLEDs. The global lighting industry is in a state of great transition. Economic and environmental concerns are driving all of us to make the move from incandescent lamps to cleaner, more energy-efficient solutions as quickly as we can. The solid state lighting revolution is happening at the right time. What’s particularly exciting is that LEDs and OLEDs offer the possibility to create new lighting designs and experiences that weren’t achievable in the past. With these new concepts Philips is adding a whole new dimension to lighting and the way it can enhance people’s lives.”

Philips offers its customers four types of concepts which can be used in homes and other personal spaces. The different types of panels include standing, desk-top, ceiling and wall-mounted luminaires. The radiant flat OLED light panels are supplemented with Luxeon Power LEDs. Each of the four models has different interactive features and sports a sleek look which is designed to decorate any room. The ceiling concept luminaires has a balance of up and down lights which can be dimmed with a hand gesture.

The OLED lighting concepts also cater to the professional line and are designed to provide light to large areas like receptions. A luminescent wall reacts to people passing by the device. A mirrored reflection is created of their shadows amidst the light. This technology conceptualized by Philips lets customers experience lighting in a whole new way. The concept is much more than just giving light to a room. It can also be looked at as an interactive tool, an aesthetic light source and a softly glowing mirror.

The price and availability of OLED-based interactive lighting concepts from Philips are still under wraps.
