10,000 CCTVs have been able to Solve Only 20 Percent of the Crime in London

Most of us know that the London police has set up several crime-fighting CCTV cameras all over the city. The 10,000 CCTVs fitted are to get a better crime clear-up rate.

ThisIsLondon .co.uk has said that these cameras are not doing a good job, and still there are lots of crimes that are pending to be solved.

The Hackney area in the British capital has the maximum cameras and has a better-than-average clearup rate of 22.2 per cent. While the cameras in Wandsworth, Tower Hamlets, Greenwich, and Lewisham areas fail to reach the average 21 per cent crime clear-up rate.

Dee Doocey, the Lib-Dems’ policing spokeswoman told ThisIsLondon .co.uk, “These figures suggest there is no link between a high number of CCTV cameras and a better crime clear-up rate.”

“We have estimated that CCTV cameras have cost the taxpayer in the region of £200million in the last 10 years but it’s not entirely clear if some of that money would not have been better spent on police officers,” added Doocey. “Although CCTV has its place, it is not the only solution in preventing or detecting crime.

Even Mumbai Railway Police have started using CCTV technology on the railway stations. I hope these CCTVs are atleast helping the Mumbai Railway Police to clear-up crimes.
